Ford Motor Company, in conjunction with the National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Organization and Discovery Education, provided students a virtual tour of how Ford designs and engineers F-Series trucks to address the needs of the company’s agricultural customers.
Ford, a FFA sponsor since 1948, has a long-term commitment to award Built Ford Tough scholarships to tomorrow’s farmers; in fact, Ford has committed $9.2 million since 1997. Given that 40 percent of farmworkers operate F-150 and 36 percent work with a Super Duty truck, it’s safe to say that workers in agriculture and livestock industries rely on Ford more than any other maker.
Using the FFA Organization’s new AgExplorer website, students in more than 1,000 classrooms learned how Ford designs, tests and builds trucks to help farmers be even more productive and connected. During the 45-minute program, America’s future farmers were able to email and tweet questions directly to the speakers.
“It is vital to introduce young people to the STEM career paths that power the agriculture industry,” commented Lori McFarling, senior vice president at Discovery Education.
“We were excited to undertake this new opportunity with FFA and Discovery Education,” declared Doug Scott, Ford truck group marketing manager. “What better way to demonstrate the power and capability of F-Series trucks, and the customer leadership Ford owns, than through the hands and eyes of our future toughest employees and customers?”
